No. We are not stochastic parrots. Can you imagine a parrot asking himself what he would see of the world around, riding a photon? And, publish the Theory of Relativity 20 years later?

…inting portraits and so recognized that the market for portrait painting had mostly come to an end. Without question, many of them did lose work and so bailed out to other professions. The ones who recognized that cameras couldn’t do everything went on to create impressionism, cubism and abstract expressionism.

Impressively accurate summarisation of what the latest GPTx revolution is bringing to us.

Impressively accurate summarisation of what the latest GPTx revolution is bringing to us. The ones that can't be replaced with machines are the ones who will keep their job. And in this case, those "the chosen" ones are the girls and guys that actually produce something untold yet. Precisely the same as the cubists, expressionists, and impressionists created something unseen yet.

AI is ‘not about cognitive software.

AI is ‘not about cognitive software. That is correct. Currently, AI is "what I claim is most probably true", but it can't claim that it concluded that its claim is valid. Chomsky is right. Cognitivism is more than 99% true.

They’ll be writing open letters to the New York Times claiming LLMs are of no practical use in another ten years when LLM-based androids are cutting their grandchildren’s lunches before breakfast and advising the President as a morning distraction when not solving quantum gravity by the afternoon. LOL. (Seriously? I jest. These LLM skeptic guys have tarnished their reputations beyond repair IMO. I think they are done being taken seriously beyond a slightly fruity fringe).

ChatGPT / LLMs are an AI field now: here’s the emerging research topic LIST

How the “Intelligent” Arose out of Statistics

Introduction First, it was Transformers: a novel neural network architecture, initially tailored for NLP, that allowed each word to be treated accordingly to its surrounding. The paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1706.03762. The keywords: self-attention and positional encoding. Effectively, the authors sketched a tool capable of calculating the mathematically measurable distance between two texts based…

There’s something very important you need to know: ChatGPT is a bullshitter. The essence of bullshit is unconcern with truth. It’s not a liar because to be a liar, you must know the truth and intend to mislead. ChatGPT is indifferent to the truth. And to demonstrate the point…

t we’re talking…e articles on Bard’s mistake and the subsequent drop in Google’s stock price, I realized something: most people don’t really know what we’re talking about when we say generative AI, LMs, or ChatGPT. As Matt Maley, chief market strategist at Miller Tabak + Co, told Time, “for a stock like Google to…
